Marnee, I politely disagree that the head is too small. Don't just look at this painting but look at all of James' work. Its obvious that there is a recurring theme and style in these figures. I don't think its because he misunderstands body proportions. Let's not assume that he's working toward photorealism. If he were he probably wouldn't be working in the watercolor medium anyway. I'm anxious to hear what James has to say about why he interprets the figure that way. But I have no doubt its intentional.
